About Me

I'm Tonya Stanley and Hatchet Cove Pottery is my tiny studio. I make handmade stoneware functional art pieces on Route 205 in Hatchet Cove, Newfoundland. Come on in and don't mind the mess.

I create pottery for use and enjoyment in daily life. I draw on rural Newfoundland culture, places, wildlife and people for inspiration.

Each piece is wheel thrown, hand built or is made using molds formed from pieces I previously made or sculpted. I use stoneware clay with commercial glazes and fire them in an electric kiln on site to cone 5-6.

Nothing here is rushed. Nothing is made the same way twice. I don't hide makers marks that show the process or worry about small flaws They tell a story about being crafted by human hands. Variation is the character that makes handmade pottery so special.

I love this place and I'm so lucky to be able to do what I love where I love to be. This place matters to me and I try to reflect that in my work. So have a good look around and see if something feels like it belongs with you. I'd be honored if you did.
